Abstract:
In the process of education and training in the field of safety and security, it is complicated to convey a real experience and to practice the recommended forms of reaction and behavior in the event of risk factors, for example the area of health and safety, evacuation procedures, in the event of a fire, flood, etc.

Educational materials in written or video form have certain limits. Although their quality may be high, their effectiveness in preparing for contingencies may be much worse. Standard courses are based on watching passive video tutorials, reading attached materials and exams. The lack of realism and commitment in traditional forms of education is even more evident when compared to the immersive experience of VR training. During this type of training, the student actively engages in a specific scenario and experiences sights and sounds that might occur in a real situation. In this way, a person learns to automatically react to a certain situation, regardless of the emotional state. And although it may not be obvious at first glance, the use of VR in training can bring significant financial savings.

The authors of the article present the results of the pilot project of the implementation of innovative tools in the process of education and training of experts in the field of safety and security and crisis management at the Faculty of Security Engineering of the University of Žilina in the Slovak Republic. Using the example of building an object evacuation scenario, they describe the methodology of constructing a digital media scenario in the pre-production, production and post-production phases. They also deal with technological, time, financial and genre factors that influence the composition of individual phases. The authors present the results of their own survey on the effectiveness of education with the involvement of VR in the training of security experts.
