Abstract:
The working environment of the school and the school climate have a significant impact on the teaching process and the effectiveness of education. This is also confirmed by the results of the OECD Talis survey, in which several factors of the school climate were identified, which are related to the quality of the working environment of schools and it is necessary to pay attention to them. The most fundamental ones include safety and health protection in the educational process, which is conditioned by the level of organization of educational activities, the level of educational and training procedures and the working environment with its equipment.

When analyzing the working environment in a school, it is necessary to identify which of its factors have a disturbing and harmful effect, and which are significant from the point of view of improving performance in education, what is the intensity of the action of these factors, what are the alternative solutions for technical or organizational measures to ensure an optimal working environment in schools and what is the effectiveness of the introduced measures. The result of the assessment is the improvement of the working environment and the school climate, the improvement of the quality of education, the improvement of the working conditions of pupils and teachers, the increase of their safety and the improvement of health protection.

In the paper, the authors present a recommended procedure for assessing the working environment of pupils and teachers at a specific place in a school, classroom, laboratory, etc. and present the results of the pilot project for the implementation of the assessment of the level of safety of the working environment in schools, the priority goal of which is to determine the actual level of health threats during the teaching process and the secondary goal is to increase the effectiveness of education and improve the quality of education.
