Abstract:
The study on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) challenges for Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) young women aged 15-24 in Greater Bangkok sheds light on the profound impact of digital barriers and competency gaps on this group. This study investigates possible issues in regards with accessing and employing ICT that these young women might have encountered.

The research includes a mixed-method study, both quantitative and qualitative, with the goals of:
1) studying the barriers to ICT used by young women in the NEET group and
2) examining the digital skill gaps for young women in the NEET group.

Consisting of 186 questions and involving 110 participants, the survey reveals that financial limitations, second-rate internet connections, and access to internet services in some certain areas are key factors that keep these women from employment, education, and digital engagement, despite high rates of smartphone ownership. The study also shows a moderate level of digital literacy and access among respondents, with a strong acknowledgment of the importance of digital skills but also highlighting the need for more ICT trainings, better internet connectivity, and financial support to be able to engage in ICT use. This study underscores the importance of digital tools and internet access and the need to enhance readiness and bridge gender disparities. The current research demonstrates the extent of the digital divide and lack of learning opportunities that may prevent these young women from social inclusion. Nonetheless, it provides an initial step towards opening opportunities and supporting the development of digital skills needed by the group.
