Abstract:
In recent years, many researches focus on the importance of non-cognitive competence, but there were few researches in terms of integrative assessment. The purpose of this study is to develop an integrated self-evaluation questionnaire for non-cognitive competence to improve the efficacy of teaching and learning. Provide the reference to students, teachers and parents. This research is a preliminary examination. There are three dimensions covered in the evaluation which are Grit, Optimism and Gratitude. The Grit dimension consists of three categories, including Concentration, Ability of problem solving and Independent. The Optimism dimension is divided to positive and negative level of thinking. The Gratitude consists of appreciation degree and the content of appreciation.

The participants are 27 students of girl’s high school in southern Taiwan. The questionnaire is based on 5-point Likert Scale and data were analyzed by SPSS and descriptive statistics. This questionnaire is constructed referenced to the concept of Grit scale by Angela Duckworth, Optimism and Pessimism Inventory (OPI) by William N. Dember and the Gratitude Questionnaire (GQ-6) by Michal E. McCullough with other researchers. The common factor analysis of validity divide in to nine classes which are two more then pre-setting. But the spare two classes are belonging to one question respectively. Both of questions were deleted in order to maintain good validity. The Cronbach’ α is between .79 to .87 and the coefficient of average is .84. The questionnaire has good internal consistency and reliability.

From the result of preliminary analysis, we could find that the self-evaluation questionnaire has good validity and reliability. A comprehensive self-evaluation questionnaire would be proposed in the following study. There will be more dimensions included in the questionnaire such like Zest, Curiosity and Self-control. The quantitative and qualitative analysis will be conducted to evaluate the non-cognitive competence of senior high school students. This could provide a solid evidence for the design of educational system.
