Abstract:
The objective of this study was to establish the relationship between the development of digital competencies and the use of artificial intelligence applications among education students. It was a quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study with a purposive sample of 180 education students from a public university. These students completed a Digital Competency Questionnaire and an Artificial Intelligence Use Questionnaire, both of which demonstrated consistent validity and high reliability. The results showed a positive and significant correlation between the development of digital competencies and the use of artificial intelligence, yielding a Rho = 0.483, p < 0.001. The study concluded that greater development of digital competencies is associated with increased use of artificial intelligence applications among education students. These findings suggest the need to strengthen the appropriate development of digital competencies to promote the reflective and ethical use of artificial intelligence applications in the university context.
