Abstract:
The intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and education, particularly in teaching English Literature, represents a rapidly growing field of inquiry with the potential to transform pedagogical methodologies and learning outcomes. This paper explores the integration of AI tools into teaching English literature, highlighting the urgency and importance of exploring AI's potential to innovate and enhance pedagogical practices. In the digital age, where the generation of content through AI algorithms for images, video, audio and text is increasingly prevalent, the need to systematically examine these tools in an educational context has never been more critical.

This study systematically analyses 10 AI tools used in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms to address this gap in the literature. The aim is twofold: to categorise these tools according to the type of content they generate and to assess their advantages and limitations in facilitating the teaching of English literature. Through a systematic examination, the research identifies key digital literacies that pre-service English Language and Literature teachers must acquire to navigate the evolving educational landscape effectively.

The findings reveal a diverse range of AI tools that offer novel approaches to teaching and learning, from automated content creation to interactive learning environments. However, challenges such as accessibility, ethical considerations and the need for pedagogical adaptation also emerge. This research highlights the transformative potential of AI in education and argues for strategic implementation to improve teaching effectiveness and student engagement in English Literature.
