Abstract:
The publication describes information about contemporary approaches in teaching English as a foreign language. The author analyses linguistic, communicative and intercultural competences that develop language communicative skills of students during the teaching process.
Nowadays the English language plays an important role in the contemporary world. It is also connected with the realization of the cultural project “Tri-unity of languages” in Kazakhstan because the most important requirement for us, as instructors of a foreign language, is qualitative providing of services in the field of education throughout the country according to international standards.
The most important aspect of our research is that we have to analyse some contemporary approaches which could be important in the teaching English as a foreign language.
At the present stage personality-centered approach is the most important principle of teaching English for many instructors, i.e. focus on the language personality. Language personality, as it is known, is a bonded and many-component complexity of language abilities, skills and commitment to code and decode information of different language levels and define some characteristic features of aims and reasons that help to develop the personality.
Personality-centered teaching English means, on the one hand, training communication, cooperation, active and creative students` activity are the most important aspects in the teaching process, and on the other hand, the instructor should use the approach that helps to involve students in the real language communication or data exchange and model a real process of cultural entry.
It is expedient to analyse prospective and efficient contemporary technologies of teaching foreign languages that are characterized in the following way: distance learning by means of a Global Network, information and communication technologies (ICT), contemporary psychological and pedagogical technologies (learning, role-play games, business plays and etc.). It is reasonable that technology of communicative teaching has its prospects in the contemporary pedagogics. This technology proposes teaching by means of communication.
Communicative teaching includes lessons in a foreign language but not about the lesson of a foreign language. This type of teaching proposes taking into account personal abilities of students because personal level allows intensifying a communicative motivation, providing speaking purposefulness and etc. G.A. Kitaigorodskaya, E.I. Passov, V.L. Skalkin and other famous linguists studied the technology of communicative teaching foreign languages.
The most effective personality-centered technologies of teaching foreign language are analysed in the contemporary pedagogics. Personality-centered education is education providing the development and self-development of student`s personality according to his/her individual abilities as a subject of learning and activity.
Therefore, summarizing the abovementioned information, it should be mentioned that contemporary approaches in the teaching English language play an important role in the development of definite competences. Taking into account analyzing approaches, we note that these approaches are aimed at the development of the main competence – communicative. This competence helps students to interpret information in a foreign language in a proper way and know the culture of different nations.
