Abstract:
Recognizing the educational opportunities arising from OpenAI’s large language model (LLM), Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4 (GPT-4), this paper explores the potential benefits of its integration with Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, aiming to enrich language learning experiences in the classroom setting.

This exploration focuses on the potential outcomes of synergizing the familiar framework of PowerPoint, given its multimedia and interactive capabilities, with GPT-4 and its key features: versatility, adept conversational skills, access to extensive knowledge, multilingual proficiency, and the connectivity it offers through its Application Programming Interface (API).

As part of this exploration, the paper presents the results of experimenting with a Proof of Concept (PoC) of this technology integration, facilitated through a custom .NET library, to investigate its potential for the development of classroom activities. These referred activities focus on different language skills and are applicable to the learning of any foreign language.

As conceptualized and illustrated, this paper posits that, albeit with challenges, risks and limitations, the integration of GPT-4 into PowerPoint can be a valuable fusion to augment language instruction that is worth pursuing.
