Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to identify current practice trends in the music education programs; the music curricula; and the purpose and philosophy of these music programs within Jewish day schools located in the Eastern and Southern division of Music Educators National Conference.
Administrators and music teachers were sent questionnaires and the results of these surveys were used to create a Jewish day school music curriculum outline (K-8) incorporating the National Standards in Arts Education in Music (NSAE); a Jewish day school music philosophy; and music curriculum-units for first and fifth grades which were field-tested and positively received. A Jewish day school music curriculum map for first and fifth grades concluded this research.
An oral presentation will discuss current educational trends and results of the conducted research; teach the attending participants the significance of curriculum mapping and how to create a curriculum map; and the importance of infusing the arts throughout a school-wide curriculum which culminates in Understanding, Applying, and Transferring Knowledge from one discipline to another.
