Abstract:
Construction safety training as safety management has been existing for years, but the model or type of effective training is changing with the onset of the era of digitization and especially in connection with the ever-increasing implementation of the principles of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, better known in construction as Construction 4.0. The well-known Bloom`s taxonomy of learning objectives is focused on the development of not only cognitive domain, but also two other domains, such as psychomotor and affective, as each of them concerns different skills and attitudes. A blended learning approach, incorporating several traditional and new digital-based techniques and tools to address different learning styles, may conveys safety instructions in a way that lead to improved safety performance. That is because this approach can effectively improve not only the occupational safety and health (OSH) knowledge, but also skills and attitude of the training participants. Nowadays, there is increasing demand for ICT-based solutions in OSH training and education. Especially, virtual reality solutions, solutions based on augmented reality or involvement of digital interactive tools or software and simulators have been viewed favourably by participants of safety education and trainings. The presented paper deals with the digital interactive tools that have been implemented in addition to traditional lectures in the course “Occupational Safety and Health in Construction”. It is one from obligatory courses within the study program “Technology and Management in Construction” in the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Košice. Moreover, some results of the perception survey of blended learning in construction safety education, conducted among participants of the mentioned course, are presented in the paper.
