Abstract:

An important prerequisite for the development of the information society is, in particular, the preparation of citizens for the effective use of information and communication technologies, in other words, digital literacy. Education and technology availability play an irreplaceable role in this. Digital literacy is essential for the development of modern society, this issue is the subject of the paper. At present, individual digital skills are a prerequisite for successful entry and remain in the labor market. These skills can be beneficial not only for yourself but also for society as a whole. The paper presents the findings of the most important digital literacy indexes of the DESI index, and the results are then compared with other countries. Some activities aimed at promoting digitization and thus developing the digital skills of the population are mentioned. The activities identified will be compared with those of the most advanced countries in the field of digitization and digital preparedness. The paper is focused on analyzing the level of digital skills of the inhabitants of one of the regions - Žilina county. The survey evaluated the digital skills of the population, the frequency of Internet usage. Problems with using information and communication technologies were studied, what is the problem with their control, for which activities are they used and so on.
