Abstract:
Digitalisation, which is advancing in all areas of life, requires increasingly interdisciplinary roles in teams that work together on digitalisation projects. In the health sector, too, technical competences are increasingly needed in addition to professional competences for the implementation of projects and plans. The Software Development Process course makes a valuable contribution in the area of interface management between IT, in particular software development, and the healthcare sector. At the same time, the importance of this interface for the success of digitalisation projects is also elaborated. The course is part of the Master's programme in Healthcare Informatics at the University of Applied Sciences Wr. Neustadt.
In terms of content, the course deals with the software development process and its facets. The basics of agile working, a working method for developing software, serves as a guideline for the course. Even if a completely agile course according to the agile manifesto [1] is difficult to implement, there are numerous possibilities to orientate oneself on the values presented. The values of the agile manifesto are conveyed through the implementation of the course itself. The values of the agile manifesto are supplemented in the course by the values of digital design with its own manifesto [2]. The Digital Design Manifesto plays an increasingly important role in the context of digitalisation and strengthens the significance of interdisciplinary work at the interface of IT and business / department or healthcare.
This course was developed and designed from the ground up as a digital course. Various digital tools were used for this purpose; in addition to the "standard tools" such as Moodle and Microsoft Teams, Miro was used as a collaborative platform for course organisation and Mentimeter for additional interaction. To support the lecture and minimise the use of classic power-point-slides, central content was visualised live using a digital whiteboard.
The course consisted of six synchronous online lecture units, two review phases and a post-course examination. For one of the synchronous online lecture units, the students prepared content-relevant scientific literature in a self-organised manner and designed a research-led discourse as well as a reflection on the topics of the course.
The paper deals with the didactic design, the evaluation and the chances and challenges of a fully digital and interactive course in higher education.
