Abstract:
How essential is it for a student to have a study-buddy? At Let's Shake Hands charity, we believe that it's the key to a successful and enjoyable study experience, especially during critical times. The inception of such a project, connecting young people from different countries through education, however, began with a tragedy. The idea emerged during the ongoing war in Ukraine, forcing two million children to flee their homes and interrupt their studies.

A young Ukrainian, Ivan Lepsky, sought to support friends of his age who had moved to other places and who needed to adapt to new schools and languages. Having delved into this undertaking, he realized that there are many more children from Ukraine like them who need help. The initial goal was to introduce Ukrainian children to young people from different countries who could offer assistance in learning foreign languages, various subjects and emotional assistance. This approach is aimed not only at providing educational support, but also at strengthening global friendship and mutual understanding.

From a small idea meant to help kids, it has grown into a large community where children can discover new knowledge and form new friendships. Here, mentors find fulfillment in their helpful contributions, and children experience the reassurance that they are not forgotten.

Let's Shake Hands promotes language learning classes in a relaxed and playful manner. Volunteer students from around the world contribute by sharing insights about life in different countries, their knowledge of some school subjects and hobbies. Meetings of young mentors and students are held in a unique online app where everyone can book and schedule a class. The project underscores the vital role of peer communication in bringing hope to the lives of these children and guiding them away from the negative aspects of refugee life.

As a testament to the Let’s Shake Hands project's success, more than 12,000 people have already joined the charity. Today, the initiative boasts a comprehensive platform, including a website (https://letshakehands.com/), a unique educational app where 36 school subjects are taught, and online courses, providing diverse avenues for global collaboration and support.

Beyond its origins as a response to the Ukrainian conflict, Let's Shake Hands has expanded its scope to benefit children worldwide. The project now offers free courses in IT, Ukrainology, English, and more, promoting self-development and global connections. This extension signifies the beginning of a broader mission to provide educational and emotional support to any child worldwide in need of a friend or study buddy.

In conclusion, Let's Shake Hands, born out of the necessity to help Ukrainian children, has transformed into a beacon of international cooperation, providing educational support, fostering global friendships, and opening doors to diverse learning experiences. As the project broadens its horizons, it stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in creating positive impacts on the lives of children globally.
