Abstract:
A practical application of mathematical models is one of the biggest missions of Computer science. Thanks to growing performance of computers and increasing amount of available data which can be analyzed, the complex networks analysis have been developed. It is a technique for gaining interesting information from a large quantity of data. Those information would hardly emerge otherwise. This paper describes use of complex network analysis to analyze cooperation between authors of scientific works at Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic.

Analyzed data were obtained from the Information system of Masaryk University that contains information about published scientific works from 1994 to presence. As results of performed analysis we identified important scientific authors who conduct a research in cross-faculty cooperation, who collaborate a lot with other faculties of Masaryk University, who collaborate with scientists from outside of Masaryk University and who write papers as the only authors and cooperate with others just a little. In addition, the strongest teams in terms of most frequent collaboration on scientific writings were identified in respective fields. The analysis was performed in specific time periods to show a continual development of publishing in time and different types of publications were considered. Finally, from these information a real organizational structure and its continual evolution can be easily seen.

Practical outcomes from results of this paper will be discussed later at our faculty.
