Abstract:

Digital competencies are key to education, work, and active participation in society. It is important for school education to understand these competencies and to know how to support their development. The education of information technologies in the high school stage is aimed at mastering knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to developing basic digital competencies. As a result of this, the students will gain confidence in: fast adaptation to new technologies, the integration of those technologies into their everyday activities, use them for self-learning, acquire skills to solve problems in a networked environment, and create and publish information on the Internet.

In the era of computer technologies, the online presence of every business is mandatory. Regardless of whether a company offers tourist services, sells clothes, or manages its own restaurant - every business owner wants to be in the same place with their potential customers. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technique that can make this possible. It is recommended that every student has basic knowledge of this technique so that they can use it in their future development.

When introducing students to the subject of SEO, it is not necessary to go into technical details. It is enough to show them the basics of SEO and to emphasize the knowledge they have gained in the early stages of their education. The idea is that the learners will be able to make a connection between new knowledge and established knowledge. This way we will provoke their interest in obtaining new knowledge in the field of Search Engine Optimization, gaining motivation to establish the received knowledge and skills, and learning even more about this subject.

The article presents research regarding what pupils learn about SEO in school and in which grades the subject of Search Engine Optimization is mentioned. The learning content has been analyzed, conclusions and reasoned recommendations have been made regarding the selection of the educational content, the usefulness and applicability of knowledge, and specific exercises have been developed for the learning content.
