Education is a term related with mental growth and human knowledge, so it is a process of acquisition knowledge, which consists on the acquisition of knowledge in school, but also outside the school. In the process of education can be indicated many various forms but the first one is formal education, which takes place at the stage of school education during their studies and also through various types of training. Usually it is a process leading to diplomas or certificates based on a specific structure and organization of courses and its methodology. The second form of education is informal education, which takes place next to the formal education process, but it usually does not have formal results like a certificates and diplomas. This form of education is present in the workplace or in the activities of civil society organizations. The basic assumptions of the ecological epoch include: acceptance of concept of sustainable development, keep protection of the main ecosystems of Earth, creation of national/regional environmental policies, acquisition of knowledge about managing natural resources and creation of new, environmentally friendly business organizations. To develop environmental awareness is required to usage environmental education - teaching and upbringing of people in a spirit of respect for the environment.
The article presents issues related to environmental education based on the assumption, that the transport business should take into account in their business the environmental responsibility. Optimal solutions should take into account the reasonable needs of the economy, taking into account environmental requirements. Creating environmental awareness will be presented as effects of the used of prepared S-mileSys platform to support people dealing with freight transport and logistics in the international research project "S-mile" under the ERA-NET programme , implemented by a consortium of institutions from three countries: Poland, Basque Country (Spain) and Turkey. The platform as a whole will support the choice of the carrier, route planning, combining transports in the supply chain, etc.. The solutions directly serve the growth of awareness of environmentally friendly action. The experiences could be used for establishing the behaviors supporting the development of sustainable logistics which will be used by relevant authorities and transport companies. The methodology of ecological education with using ITC will be described in the article.
