Abstract:
The effective use of ICT in modern teaching approaches (MTAs) depends on teachers' education, training, and readiness for systematic change. The Centre for Teaching Support of the University of Maribor (CTSUM) was established (Slovenia) to educate higher education (HE) teachers on MTAs and develop their ICT competences. This study analyses the fields for which HE teachers (n = 47) sought help and gives information on the type of support the CTSUM provided. The inventory of the given ICT support shows that most HE teachers needed support in project-based learning (n = 14), the production of graphically rich learning materials (n = 5), voting applications and feedback (n = 5), and in using tools for computer control (n = 3). The CTSUM provided support through individual consultations (e.g. communication via e-mail, telephone, and meetings) or workshops (e.g. on problem-based learning and the use of practical tools). These results allow the CTSUM to tailor their supporting activities to HE teachers’ needs.
