Abstract:
The paper reflects the requests for changes in education which are mainly driven by the digitalization of society.

Changing the structure of skills required for success in society and in the labor market - the emphasis on skills for the 21st century: the ability to work with information and digital literacy, critical thinking and asking the right questions, creativity, problem-solving etc.

In order to achieve the necessary changes in education, the Czech Government adopted the 'Strategy for Digital Education until 2020' from the 'Europe 2020' strategy. One of its priority objectives is to improve pupils' competences to work with information and digital technologies.

The issue will be observed from the field of cultural and visual studies which penetrate into educational curriculum through art and media education. The aims of these education subjects are, primarily, the achievement of visual and media literacy while, naturally, using digital media.

The paper will present the initial results of a qualitative reaserch composed by questionnaire for teachers, interview with students and teachers and participating observation. A questionnaire will be held to find out the real preconditions for the fulfilment of the mentioned strategy on the practice of Art education on secondary school. Furthermore, there will be presented topics and stimuli that are showing up as valuable and worthy of attention both for practice and for authors of the educational curriculum.
