Abstract:

The digital transformation of education has significantly redefined leadership and management practices within educational institutions. This paper explores the evolving role of educational leadership in the digital era, with a focus on the integration of innovative leadership models and effective management strategies. Using a qualitative comparative approach, the study examines European best practices and analyzes the challenges faced by emerging educational systems, particularly in Romania.

The findings indicate that effective leadership increasingly depends on digital competencies, distributed leadership practices, and continuous professional development. At the same time, major challenges persist, including the digital skills gap, resistance to change, and inequalities in access to educational resources.

The paper proposes a conceptual framework that highlights the interaction between leadership models, systemic challenges, and strategic responses. This framework demonstrates how educational institutions can enhance performance and foster innovation through adaptive leadership approaches.

The study provides both theoretical contributions to the field of educational leadership and practical implications for policymakers and institutional leaders aiming to support sustainable digital transformation in education.
