Abstract:
Albania is working for a reliable and sustainable energy sector development in order to meet its own energy demand and to create added values for Albanian citizens in line with principles of environmental, economic and social responsibility. This paper deals with the hypothesis that good knowledge about energy savings and its economic and environmental impact helps to improve teaching methods and transforms the concept of school by making it more useful and more competitive from the professional viewpoint. Engineering Education for Sustainable Development of the society can be attained by systematically integrating in curriculum of advancing and greening technical education. Engineering Education for Sustainable Development in the study program of second level, master, is considered as very crucial for the development and perspective of the society. The knowledge gained on electric drives course such as: replacement of standard electric drives with efficient ones, improving of power factor of electric drives, using variable speed drives to control speed etc., which bring reduction of energy consumption, economic benefits, reduction of green gasses emission, environmental protection are pointed out by students in their course projects. The paper emphasizes through practical study case that Education for Sustainable Development is a powerful force that helps to prepare active and responsible citizen in order to build a sustainable future. Projects in electric drives course help students to enhance life skills education by contributing to economic, environmental and social sustainability. The paper ends by providing conclusions and recommendations.
