Abstract:
With the intention to actively engage university students in contributing to the development of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in cross-cultural dialogues Europe/Asia, while developing entrepreneurial thinking and skills, we present the course Eurasia Foundation – Burgos University 2020 « Sustainability, Ethics and Social Responsibility OneAsia Community with Europe ».

The course is organized by the Rectorate of Internationalization, mobility and Cooperation through the Center of Modern Languages of Burgos University, in collaboration with the Japanese NGO Eurasia Foundation (from Asia), a non-profit organization that promotes a shared vision of a world without inequalities and conflicts, based on values of mutual respect, solidarity and cooperation between countries.

An interdisciplinary course taught in English, it allows university students to specialize in geopolitical, intercultural and commercial relations between Spain (Burgos) and Asia, with an emphasis on sustainability, ethics and social responsibility, through an innovative project-based methodology (create to contribute) and online video-lectures platform. https://www.ubu.es/curso-oneasia-burgos-university-2020

As a requirement of the course, and in order to obtain 3CTS and the Eurasia Foundation certificate, students are requested to create a final project aimed at providing practical contribution to these dialogues from their fields of study/disciplines. Developing entrepreneurial thinking and skills in cross cultural dialogues, students’ projects represent examples in which technology and digital skills, highlighting ethics and sustainability in higher education, are put at the service of building bridges between the Asian Community and Europe. https://www.ubu.es/curso-oneasia-burgos-university-2020/proyectos-projects

Having to adapt from face-to-face to remote learning due to the coronavirus pandemic, our online format has provided continuation to our course and has connected our students with guests lecturers from around the world through video-calls. Thus, in this regard, this course presents an example of a successful experience of how to overcome new challenges in education an international cooperation in our “new normal” scenarios while enhancing education for sustainability and ethics in education.
