NEEDS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AUGMENTED REALITY MULTIMEDIA FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION OF SUKHOTHAI THAMMATHIRAT OPEN UNIVERSITY

This research aimed to study needs for development of augmented reality multimedia for distance education of Sukhothai Thammathirat open university. The study concerned the basic information for a development of augmented reality multimedia by interviewing 6 experts on English teaching and 10 students of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University. The questions focused on appropriate media for English teaching, the use of comprehensive replacement and supplementary media, the use of mobile application, augmented reality multimedia materials, and content delivery of augmented reality multimedia for English teaching of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University.

The research findings were as follow:
The experts identified that appropriate multimedia for English teaching depended on the content, learning objectives and learners centered. Two issues for the use of comprehensive replacement and supplementary media were that:
1) the documentary materials should be comprehensive replacement and the other media should be used as supplementary media,
2) computer should be used as comprehensive replacement and other media should be used as supplementary media to support learners on self-paced learning.

The use of mobile application should be done because the smart phone and augmented reality multimedia are modern and able to stimulate the English skill of listening, speaking, reading and writing. augmented reality multimedia material. The content delivery of augmented reality multimedia for English teaching can be done in many ways. The importance for a development of augmented reality multimedia for distance education was the networking system. The learners would not be able to access the content if the networking system was not stable and lead to learning problem.

For the students, the opinion on appropriate multimedia for English teaching should provide on the students’ ability and convenience. The use of comprehensive replacement and supplementary media, documentary materials should be used for comprehensive replacement and the supplementary media for communication should be autocratic. Smart phone or computer are modernized media and should be applied in a development of augmented reality multimedia for distance education. On content delivery of augmented reality multimedia for English teaching, the students needed the lecture by instructors as same as the classroom situation. The video clip of content delivery instead of documentary materials can be able to repeat. The use of animation for augmented reality multimedia helped relaxation. The research suggestion was that the university should have a policy on using networking system for the students’ expense.
