The effective educational system is a fundamental premise for providing quality education. The education is provided by different types of institutions. However, students can get the highest level of education at universities. Nowadays, the graduates of secondary schools may choose from many universities that provide education in various fields of study. The competition in the university environment is high, not only because of the declining number of applicants (due to the decline in the demographic curve) but also because of the emergence of new fields of study. Thus, the universities have to create conditions, which will attract applicants to study interesting fields of study. Nowadays, the universities are not able to respond effectively to the global development and labor market demands. The emergence of new threats in global context, the development of technology or the process of globalization have led to the creation of new professions, which are difficult to occupy in many cases with qualified and quality workforce. The paper deals with possibilities of increasing quality of the university environment for applicants in context of negative development of demographic curve and creation new professions. The survey as a tool of primary research was carried out with the aim to analyze the requirements of the university education applicants. The survey among the current students of the first year of the university study points out the aspects that influenced them during the selection of a university. Outputs highlight the aspects that affect the decision by choosing of the university. For this very reason, the outputs of this paper help to increase the attractiveness of the university environment and to aid in the innovation of fields of study. Public authorities can use the results of the survey to restructure the university environment also to create new study programs and to modify current legislation to enhance benefits for prospective study programs.
