Abstract:
It is usual to have industry linkages in different programs and it is one of the key aspects of student learning and development. In the Middle East, especially in the field of fashion design, the dynamics of the industry are very different from the rest of the world. This paper will identify those differences in the industry and how it affects the curriculum development. This paper will also look into the type of links that can be created with fashion industry in the Middle East to enhance student learning and understanding.
The paper will show the factors that inhibit industry linkage formation and the remedial procedures that can be adopted to ensure that both the industry and academia benefit from the link. This paper will help in understanding the expectations that both parties have from such linkages.
Two different industries related to Fashion Design (production, retail, event management, etc.) will be chosen to understand their point of view. Their arguments will be matched with academic requirements and learning outcomes. A comprehensive action plan should result from this exercise that can be adopted as a guide to create a smooth link between industry and academic. Keywords:
Industry linkage, Fashion Design, Curriculum Development, Middle East.
