Abstract:
The position of social pedagogue has a long tradition in the Czech Republic. In recent years, the position of social pedagogue has been increasingly used in schools and has become a common part of school counselling center in primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic. Despite intensive support, however, it is still not regulated by legislation, which brings complications such as unsystematic funding, low methodological support, ambiguous job description, etc. There are still discussions on the future application of the position of social pedagogue in schools and on the activities they are competent to perform.

Within the framework of the research investigation we focused on the position of the social pedagogue in schools in the Czech Republic. The main aim was to identify the activities that social pedagogues perform in the school environment. We also focused on the length of time the social pedagogue has been in the position, its funding, the specification of schools where social pedagogues work and other key areas in order to best map the position. The data from this study, among other things, serve as a research basis for the development of a methodology for social pedagogues in schools, which is currently being developed by the Association of Social Pedagogues in the Czech Republic.
