Abstract:
The issues of competences have recently become the subject of scientific discussions. Based on our experience and in relation to evaluation processes in the university environment we feel that research focused on learning to learn competence is very significant, specifically with regard to the academic performance. The paper presents the issue of academic performance of university students, in particular in the context of the current topic of their success and failure during university studies. In that context, the paper focuses on the subjective evaluation of the learning to learn competence as learning to learn competence is viewed as one of the possible indicators that influence academic performance. The paper emphasizes the comparison among students with different specializations, i.e. among technical, agricultural, environmental and economic fields of study. The survey aims to quantify and describe the relationship between levels (quality) of academic performance and levels (quality) of the learning to learn competence of students of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague using contingency tables. The results for all respondents, regardless their specialization, showed that the most frequent level of quality of the learning to learn competence was the statement “somewhat agree” and for the quality of academic performance the grades “very good” and “good” were selected most frequently by the respondents.
