Abstract:
Choosing a profession is an important life decision. Some people have known what they would like to do in the future since their childhood, others learn their skills, interests and desires over a longer period and their decision regarding their profession happens in adulthood. The teaching profession is one of the most important professions in society. Its mission is to pass on and mediate knowledge and experience, but also certain attitudes and values.

The aim of this paper is to describe the reasons teachers or young teachers in primary schools lead to the selection of the teaching profession. Given the aim of the thesis, a quantitative approach to the study was chosen. A questionnaire survey was selected as the research method. The questionnaire was subjected to a pre-research to secure adequate validity and reliability. In total, the questionnaire was administered to 134 respondents. The data was evaluated by standard statistical methods.

The results show that selecting the teaching profession is related to a long-term focus on this profession. The most indicated common reason is the interest in working with children. Furthermore, the possibility of creative activity and the general benefit of the profession with the possibility of supporting the development of the younger generation.
