Abstract:
Nowadays a growing demand for professional developers with expertise in 3D systems can be observed. Universities should take it into consideration and encourage students to improve their skills in this area. Student education can easily be extended to this field when the university has a motion capture laboratory on its premises. This paper presents possibilities of using the motion capture system installed at Lublin University of Technology for improving students’ skills, mainly in 3D animation and data analysis. The thesis that states “a motion capture laboratory allows for extending students 3D experience in animation and motion acquisition” is proven in this paper. The proof is based on the survey conducted among ICT students and their actual involvement in the research conducted at the laboratory. The survey results indicate that students lack knowledge in the field of 3D systems. The paper also presents possible aspects of student engagement during their study. They include: 3D project, creating 3D software, doing research for their masters and bachelors theses or using this technology in scientific students groups. This kind of involvement creates a link between education and research. Students gain the experience in the area of 3D systems.
