Abstract:
This article deals with the methodology of teaching ballistic measurements using the example of a description of the measurement of the velocity of a projectile. It describes the authors' many years of experience in teaching ballistics and shows how historical developments in technology have influenced teachers' approach to teaching ballistics. An analysis of different methods of measuring projectile velocity is presented by example, both from the student's and the teacher's perspective. The question is discussed as to whether the transition to modern measurement methods means that older methods will no longer be included in teaching. The advantages and disadvantages of all the measurement methods described are shown and the effect of the development of the various measurement methods on the content of ballistic laboratory equipment is also presented. The possibilities for teaching ballistics are shown, where the benefits for students are considered: the simplicity of the method, the independence in making measurements, the availability of components for measurement, but also the complexity of the method and the technical problems associated with the use of each method. This article presents not only possible approaches for the teacher in teaching ballistic measurements but also a virtual student's view of the difficulty of understanding and implementing the method.
