Abstract:

The article deals with English borrowings in youth slang used by a generation of young people called millennials. We believe that the rapid growth in the number of borrowings in this area requires scientific analysis and systematic description.
The relevance of this work is due to the attention to the slang of modern youth in the aspect of the globalization process. The study used methods of analyzing Internet publications, studying vocabulary data, and interviewing university students.

The article explores the origin and definition of slang, analyzes the nature of slang, its generations, the reasons for using slang and evaluates the influence of English culture on Russian speech. We have collected statistical data by interviewing students and selected the most frequent slang words which had been revealed as a result of the analysis of the material.  We have also revealed some features of the formation of new lexical units.
The article may be of interest not only to linguists, but also to culturologists, sociologists and psychologists.
