EFFECT OF STEAM – BASED INTEGRATED LEARNING UNITS ON 5TH GRADE STUDENTS

Abstract:
The effects of globalization can be seen around the world, including in Thailand. To stay globally competitive, science educators in all grade levels are calling for increasing research in STEM education. STEAM Education is foundation of STEM Education. Putting arts (A) in STEM education can make more fun and easy to implement in the elementary grade level.
In this study, the purposes were:
1) to develop STEAM learning units for fifth grade students
2) to evaluate the STEAM learning units on science learning achievement and investigate students’ scientific creativity.
Satisfaction of the students who learn the STEAM learning units also assess. The research design was one group pretest-posttest design. A sample of 75 fifth grade in the first semester of academic year 2015 was purposely selected.
The research instruments were composed of:
1) an achievement test;
2) a scientific creativity test; and
3) a satisfaction questionnaire.
The results were the following:
1) The post-learning achievement of the students were higher than the pre-learning counterpart achievement and passed level of the criterion (65%) at the .05 level of significance.
2) The post-learning scientific creativity was higher than that of pre-learning at the .05 level of significance and
3) The satisfaction for learning management was good at the .05 level of significance. Keywords:
