Abstract:
IT industry is a knowledge based industry where performance varies among individuals. The achievement and productivity depends upon individual creativity and skills .Unlike technical skills, soft skills are less precise but are substantially momentous for growth and advancement of these professionals. For any software development process, soft skill traits like leadership, communication, negotiation, problem solving, team spirit plays a pivotal role as it induces the way a person carries out the tasks. Thus it is desired for IT professionals to be well equipped with soft skills.

There are wide-ranging number of traits that are roofed under soft skills and no institution can incorporate all these traits in their curriculum neither any IT organisation can impart such elaborated training to their employee .Thus it is very essential to find out the critical soft skill set for both industry and academia.

The objective of this paper is to find out the relevant soft skills and the degree of their vitality by reviewing the literature on soft skills in Information Technology domain and getting view of various authors concerning these skills.

Research papers from various journals and accessible write ups on soft skills in Information Technology domain were reviewed and the views of various authors concerning these skills were obtained.

This process has provided valuable insights of various soft skills that are vital for IT professionals and should be there in curricula of software engineering courses.
