Abstract:
The paper summarizes the 13-year-long process of ICT implementation in Higher Education in the Czech Republic.

It is structured in three main parts focusing on:
(1) the Internet as a source of information for general and educational purposes,
(2) the process of ICT implementation in education at the faculty
(3) the history of e-learning conference&competition held at the faculty.

In Part 1 authors provide comparison and analysis of data which were collected by the questionnaire from the first-year university students in bachelor and master study programmes of Informatics. The questionnaire focused on approaches how the freshmen had searched for information about the faculty, entrance exams and related processes, it monitored their ways to the Internet access, previous experience in use of ICT for educational purposes, studying in on/offline courses, definition of the term e-learning etc.

In Part 2 the process of ICT implementation running at the faculty since 2000 is described, i.e. how the first online courses were designed and the process of e-teaching/e-learning started, how both the teachers/tutors and students were trained to teach/learn efficiently, what their experience and proposals for further development were etc.

The development on the faculty level provided impact on the whole country, as presented and discussed in Part 3. This conclusion resulted from the analysis of papers, e-products and e-tools presented on 13 e-learning conferences&competitions which were organized by the faculty. Taking all three factors into consideration, the whole process of ICT implementation in higher education is displayed and analyzed.
