Abstract:
The education setting can take various forms. One of basic forms is a class or a course conducted in a classroom. The message conveyed is addressed to several people at the same time, both orally and in writing. Pictograms can complement those basic forms, as well as substitute them in certain areas of our ordinary life. Such a form has become increasingly popular due to the ease of its application in mobile devices and simplicity of understanding during an individual learning process.

The article presents ICT solutions as an example of using pictograms in a tool developed under the international project funded from the ERANET CoFund EMEurope Programme. The main project goals include education and promotion of environmentally-friendly solutions, including electromobility in cities. The international project consortium consists of research institutions and companies from four European countries, including Saitec, Factor and DeustoTech (Spain), Silesian University of Technology (Poland), Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary) and Delft University of Technology and Over Morgen (The Netherlands).

A study by the authors involving 14,000 people showed that, on the one hand, the youngest groups of respondents (18-25 and 25-35) show the highest degree of using modern solutions for trip planning and satellite navigation, and on the other, they represent demanding groups which are more critical as regards the current transport system in cities. Considering the above, it is justified to promote ICT solutions and use them as a source of education and information provision. The proposed method necessitates the implementation of an ICT tool in a specific city (or metropolis) that supports a decision-making among users selecting modes of travelling.

The use of the tool should help gaining new knowledge as regards the existing transport network in a city, as well as impact of the used on the environment. The environmental aspect is particularly important, and education on the topic rarely combines theoretical examples and practical everyday life examples. Consequently, the increase in knowledge about the impact on the environment and electromobility may contribute to the improvement of the quality of life in a given area. The article discusses the methodology in greater detail.
