Abstract:
Moulding proper behavior requires overcoming barriers in many aspects. Fight against stereotypes and habits, by appropriate transfer of information has the great significance here. Even more important is the properly chosen form of communication. In recent years, due to technological development, education takes the form of multimedia. The visual form makes easier to understand the examples of actual phenomena, and in many cases accelerates remembering. More importantly, this form of education can be implemented practically any time (visual message) and without age restrictions.
Getting the right travel behavior is one of the key elements of modern cities. Proper education in this area is difficult. For proper functioning of cities EU guidelines indicate the need for a change in the direction of environmentally friendly transport behavior. Education of the children is possible from the ground up. In order to obtain a change also in environmental awareness of adults (with a well-established opinion in the subject) much stronger message is required. Therefore ecological education of adults takes many forms, which also have an impact on a particular group of people.
The article is limited to issues related to education through visual information. The problem is illustrated in the practical example. However, described a form of visual learning can also be used in other areas of life. A training research ground has become an international research project "S-mile" under the ERANET programme, implemented by a consortium of institutions from three countries: Poland, Basque Country (Spain) and Turkey.
For each country a specific area was chosen. These areas allow to test new products of the project (to increase awareness of the ecological aspect). Exchange of experience has allowed to identify the target groups of adults. In this case, local authorities were selected. It means persons which having an impact on development of transport systems and thus an important link in the construction of education strategy of inhabitants. The second group includes the carriers, which means persons that have also an impact on the current transport system, but in different way - by realizing the transport of goods. So specifically nominate the target groups allowed to try out the methodology adopted to solve a specific problem of education.
Tool supporting education in this case is a visualizer that allows the transfer of carriers, but above all local authorities, information about goods transport in selected area. It is knowledge among others about the most exposed to this type of transport elements of the transport network, the values of emissions of harmful substances in terms of the whole day or longer period of time, the quality of transport infrastructure.
The local authorities without the use of other technologies and monitoring systems may receive full information, the purpose of which is to support the education and the elaboration of appropriate behavior. These changes are primarily the ability to improve the situation in some parts of the area by directing transport outside the area. It is also education in the possible impact of this type of transport on the environment (in the form of emissions).
These ideas can also be used in other areas of life, which makes the method of education through the visualization of phenomena can be regarded as universal also for the older age groups (adults).
