Abstract:

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of education has garnered significant attention and potential for transforming learning environments in college contexts. This conference paper explores the current challenges and opportunities that AI presents in supporting education in college settings. Leveraging AI technologies in college settings has the potential to enhance personalised learning, optimise administrative processes, and augment teaching and learning experiences. However, the successful implementation of AI in education is not without hurdles. This paper delves into key challenges, including ethical considerations, data privacy, algorithmic biases, and the displacement of traditional teaching methods, while also supporting individuals in their enjoyable learning journeys. To harness the full potential of AI, educators and policymakers must address these obstacles and adopt innovative approaches to design and implement AI-driven solutions effectively. Based on a recent workshop with colleagues from the UK colleges and recent research that synthesises insights, this paper sheds light on the transformative impact of AI in college education. It concludes with a comprehensive analysis of the opportunities that AI presents in fostering an inclusive, efficient, and adaptive educational ecosystem in college contexts while emphasizing the necessity of responsible AI integration in practice.
