Abstract:

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a worldwide epidemic and a serious fear that influences learners in schools. The effects of GBV on children require more attention. The purpose of this research was to ascertain how pupils are affected by GBV. This research examined the effects of GBV on primary school learners, focused on identifying the types of GBV experienced by primary school learners; analysed the determinants of GBV, and examined the impact of GBV among primary school learners. This research study employed a qualitative research technique. Data were collected from scholarly articles. Findings from the study revealed that GBV affects learners’ self-esteem, school attendance, makes learners drop out, and also affects them psychologically. The study recommends that GBV be included in the Life Orientation subject. Teachers, parents, and the community should come together to help combat GBV.
