Abstract:
There is a general prevalence of computer anxiety and reluctance to use information technology in Higher Education. Both students and tutors generally perceive the incorporation of IT-based pedagogy in HE as an added complexity into the learning and teaching experiences. On the other hand the government actively promotes the incorporation of technology-based learning in higher education to facilitate development of skilled labour for the 21st century, and to enhance the cost-effectiveness of educational provisions. This creates a tension between those who are confident in employing technology in the university teaching environment due to their IT skills, and those who are reluctant to embrace technology because of the conflict with their educational philosophy and lack of IT skills.
