Abstract:
Recently, the use of technology in the educational system has gained much grounds and it is fast spreading all over the world. On the other hand, traditional methods of teaching (that is mainly teacher-centered) are witnessing a steep decline. To keep pace with this evolving technology, teachers must endeavor to understand as well as be able to incorporate these new technological advances in planning and delivering their lectures. Now it is an established fact that educational technology provides plenty of opportunities for students to get involved in their classes and better understand the material. In this article, we propose the use of Personal Response Systems (PRS) as a tool to engage students in the learning process. Furthermore, this article provides details about how PRS can be used effectively to gain the maximum benefit in developmental Mathematics classes. This article also throws more light on what type of question should be asked to make classes interesting and get the students involved in constructive discussions. Students’ point of view on the PRS along with some results from different surveys on PRS classes is also presented.
