Abstract:
Higher education should use a multidisciplinary approach to learning that involves teachers, the community, and students using a broad range of approaches. The current study aims to implement a practical approach, with significant student involvement, and to promote contact with companies in the automotive industry, namely in implementing procedures for vehicle malfunction diagnosis. The essential objectives of this practice were to promote active learning, based on the development of transversal skills such as teamwork, initiative, critical thinking, and digital and multimedia skills. In order to achieve the objectives of this work developed within the scope of the Automotive Diagnosis Curricular Unit of the 3rd year of the Degree in Automotive Engineering, students were asked, divided into groups, to make contacts with car repair companies and make a video about the methodologies implemented in the automotive diagnosis process so that they could later share the result of this work with the class. It was determined that the students carried out a highly successful educational practice based on real learning conditions, also enabling significant contact with the automotive community, leading to the development of several very relevant skills for the exercise of automotive engineering tasks and that the students' evaluation of this pedagogical practice was very positive, even though some improvements should be implemented as a result of some suggestions from the students themselves.
