Abstract:
ViduSign is a 2 year European Project that explores the creative use of video for the young hearing impaired and investigate how video can support creative discovery and problem-based learning. It uses a visual approach and work transversal, across different countries (Germany, Austria, Eslovenia, United Kindom and Spain) to promote visual, digital and literacy competences of young deaf people, aged 15 to, in the transition period from school to work.

The availability and ease access to video shows that it is great medium for the deaf people, as it is built on visual competences. Visual expression can be regarded as the strongest cultural interface between hearing and non-hearing world. These competences will increase hearing impaired youngsters’ potential for employment, by supporting additional competences, and will enable them to express themselves more freely through their own self-expression.

The main aim of the project is to use creative video for teaching, learning and communication for the European deaf communities.

In the project there are three work packages:
(1) collecting best practices in the field of video education,
(2) developing pilot video models and
(3) creation of pedagogic materials.

Based on the outcomes of the pre-research and with the inclusion of six pilot videos, the first ideas for the design of pedagogic materials will be collected. Deaf people will essentially participate in the creation of pedagogic materials, video production and subtitling, workshops and training as well as in the dissemination and promotion of the products.
