Abstract:
Social networks are considered the most popular means of communication today. Facebook is an undeniable reality and plays an increasingly important role in today's society. The question of the effectiveness of the virtual environment can be raised as a tool for intellectual incentive. In other words, can facebook be a good asset to use in education, in the teaching and learning process? Taking into account the age of the student population, students are always connected to facebook and it is a priority means of communication for them. It becomes the preferred channel for receiving and providing information. This interchangeable information is made in real time and is one of facebook's strongest resources for educational purposes.

In this sense, this research aims to present the use of facebook as an asset in high school (university system), having as a case study the University of Beira Interior, in Portugal. We will look at how the school, in general, will be able to appropriate this means to involve its students in situations that effectively contribute to their academic progress.
