Abstract:
Tutoring recognized as a feature of educational guidance and teaching work within Mexican universities, is a key element in the performance and achievement of the education of their students, however given the integration process beginning teachers expressed ignorance and uncertainty in the performance of their role as guardians and generally without making an initial or continuous training. This paper presents the results of the review of teacher-tutors on the exercise of guardianship in terms of needs and features of tutorial exercise within the Faculty of Pedagogy and Educational Innovation of the Autonomous University of Baja California, Mexico, these results constitute an important background in developing and building the profile of the tutor for this school.

Focusing specifically on the task of the tutor, it was considered important to know the opinion of those who hold this work in the Faculty of Pedagogy and Educational Innovation, which allowed to lay a foundation that allowed the joint lead to a profile for the tutor to the interior of this academic unit.
We consider tutoring and educational counseling as a process of support for the training of students, which are intended to guide and monitor students' development as well as support in the cognitive and affective aspects of learning this as mode of teaching practice, teaching does not replace the front group, but complements and enhances it, this leads us to place the tutor as a key figure in the learning process of students making a link between the student and the institution.
The results obtained were directed to the consideration of certain basic elements to the profile of the tutor, so that enable you to be prepared to understand and explain the features of the institutional academic, guide the student on the academic track, specialty events and professional field, learn about the regulations applicable to the training process on the regulatory guidelines of the institution, and the processes of social service and professional practices, identify attitudes or behavior problems that may hinder student performance, direct and channel the student to the appropriate instances where it can receive timely care, preventive or solve their problems.
According to the views of teachers surveyed, tutors must possess certain skills to: identify problems, manage groups, listen and communicate empathy with their tutees, so that inspires confidence and motivation. And have certain personal characteristics, such as understanding, respect, service attitude, tolerance, honesty, responsibility and commitment, the latter two features very significant to assist in the training of professionals and citizens who demand today's society.
The characterization of the academic profile of the tutor presented in this paper, was an approach to the constitution of the basic functions of the tutor in the field of educational guidance, we believe that the benefits of this are manifold as it allows the tutor to identify specific areas in which will accompany the student during their training, the tutors may consider activities that are precise and priority to perform, enabling tutors to identify training needs to be obtained in the short, medium and long term.
