Abstract:
In many Higher Learning institutions, Learning Management Systems (LMS) are used as the teaching and learning tool. The use of LMS often overlooks the appropriateness of instructional practices and learning materials regarding the different learning styles and needs of students as the conventional form of learning management would handle all students in the same way by having the same teaching method framework that will disregard individual needs and students will tend to lose their interest in studies. Such circumstances will later impact the student’s growth and knowledge development. This could be overcomed if a suitable teaching method and learning materials are presented to fit the needs of the individual student to enhance the learning experience. This research study will focus on how to build a personalized learning management system in order to provide customized learning paths to students to enhance their learning experience. In addition to that, this paper will also focus on using open learner model which will allow the students to model themselves by providing feedback to the system. There were 31 participants who participated in the survey. The proposed system would be a novel contribution at solving the problem in the existing personalized learning management systems, as evidenced by ongoing research of related work and implementation that is to enhance the learning experience of students while ensuring usability. The findings also indicated a significance in the effectiveness of the personalized learning management system in enhancing students’ learning and user experience by opening up the learner model.
