ANCESTRAL KNOWLEDGE IN THE PRODUCTION OF CRAFTS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF RÁQUIRA (COLOMBIA)

Abstract:
When talking about education, schools, universities and other educational centers are important, however, there is another type of informal education to transmit knowledge from generation to generation, such as the crafts making that allows many people to have a job. An example of these are the artisans of a town in Colombia called Ráquira, where crafts contribute a large percentage to the domestic product and job creation. This way, in this research the main objective is to investigate the impact of the transmission of ancestral knowledge for the elaboration of crafts from generation to generation as a mechanism for the conservation of traditions and economic development that contribute to well-being of the population. The present research has a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope where, based on interviews applied to the town's artisans, with the purpose of identify the main source of their knowledge to make crafts, as well as the contribution that this activity has to the cultural and heritage sector. It was found that more than half of the artisans surveyed (53%) acquired their knowledge through their parents and other ancestors, which contributes to maintaining the customs and traditions of the region, almost a quarter of them (26 %) learned to make crafts at the time they began working in this economic sector, a minority of (9%) expressed having learned the trade in educational centers, likewise the artisans indicated that their activity contributes to maintaining cultural traditions and the ancestral legacy, the family unity and the recognition of its products at a national and international level.Keywords:
