Abstract:
Strength of Materials or mechanics of deformable bodies is the part of mechanics which deals with the study and the relationship between the internal forces and the deformations that take place in real bodies. This discipline also studies the changes in shape and size depending on the loads acting on these bodies, their linkages and the physical properties of the material.

In general, the Strength of Materials provides a foundation that will allow students to calculate and project mechanical components for buildings and machines. It also includes the verification of mechanical elements that have already been planned. That is why there are two perspectives on the scope of this subject: first the problem of sizing and then the option of checking.

The main objective of this scientific and technological subject is that the obtained results can be applied to real life situations. Therefore, it gives students the opportunity to check the usefulness of the course in solving usual engineering problems. It is important that the teacher takes advantage of this to get the attention and interest of students.
