Abstract:
Most physics teachers in high school do not teach the atomic quantum model because they assume that it is impossible for high school students to understand it.
However, we showed to in-service teachers that although it is not convenient to teach the quantum theoretical framework, there is no problem discussing with the students the process that took place with the actual atomic model. We taught the teachers a way of dealing with this theme with high school students.
Through an educational itinerary, the main atomic models are reviewed and analyzed. Each model is accompanied by a brief description of the relevant concepts and aspects involved. The strategies for the students were designed on the basis of field work with high school students. During the course, the steps followed for the strategy are explained in detail: planning, structure and organization of the material.
This proposal took into account the existing curricula in Mexico, as well as the population to which it is directed.
It was concluded that a suitable teaching method of the actual atomic model is possible in high school. Teachers appreciate the approach made in the introduction to the basic concepts as well as the qualitative work done during the course.
