Abstract:
The subject of Maths in Secondary Education is usually perceived by some students as boring and discouraging. Some students have difficulties to acquire abstract concepts due to a lack of development of linguistic competences. In addition, some students also show a lack of autonomy and critical thinking for problem resolution since they are only focused to follow the instructions of the teacher.
In this paper, we present an innovation project aimed at solving the problems stated above. This proposal is based on a didactic methodology that combines two pedagogical methods: expert groups and peer tutoring. The main goal of this project is to provide students with more autonomy and motivation by promoting cooperative work. In a first stage, students are divided in expert groups which generate specific materials based on cards. These cards are used in a second stage for peer teaching, in which students are grouped in pairs according to their previous expertise. In this second stage, each member explains his/her corresponding part to the other member by using the materials generated. Finally, these materials to other students by using ICT tools.
This innovation project promotes not only the motivation and the acquisition of knowledge and skills, but also competences such as creativity, teamwork, and autonomy. The proposal was implemented and evaluated in a group of third level of Secondary Education in two different topics. The results shown some significant conclusions related to the marks and the motivation. Keywords:
