Abstract:
Digitalization changes the conditions of our work. This means that human beings have to be able to live and work in a changing environment. People must be prepared for this.

The process of digitalization influences education in schools and universities. Changes in education are necessary to react to the requirements of digitalization. In educational establishments, the concept of teaching changes into the concept of learning. This is based on the awareness that self-learning is more efficient than traditional teaching. Additionally, digitalization changes the world and education has to enable students to manage living in a digitalized world. Digitalization promotes progress. Thus, education has to enable students to participate in that progress.

In a research project, technologies of digitalization were listed: Robotised automation, 3-D-Printer, Soft- and Hardware Agents, RFID Chips, Near Field Communication, Virtual Personal Assistant, Smart Advisor, Machine-to-Machine-Communication, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Gesture Recognition, Mobile Devices, 3-D-Scanner, Cloud Computing, Mobile Apps, Wearables, Enterprise Search Engines, Text Mining, Pattern Recognition, Big Data Analytics, and Predictive Analytics. From these technologies changes in knowledge were derived: Knowledge becomes autonomous, personal, cross-linked, virtual, augmented, mobile, externalised, anticipated and concentrated.

Afterwards, technological, organisational and personal requirements in education were identified. From these requirements, recommendations for education are derived:
• Education must enable people to handle changes. The dynamic and velocity of changes in technology necessitates life-long learning. Education can reduce the fear of changes.
• Pupils should be qualified to handle new technologies. Educational institutions need a modern digital infrastructure. Using technological equipment has to be taught theoretically and exercised practically.
• Educational techniques should enable students to learn self-reliantly with electronic media. Teachers should be enabled to utilize online courses, blended learning, gamification and learn management systems. The integration of social media offers new possibilities for knowledge transfer.
• Teachers should instruct learners where to get the knowledge and how to learn. The composition of courses should contain theoretical and practical parts. Learners should become accustomed to learning new technologies. They have to know where to find the necessary knowledge and how to use it. Digital media assists in learning and practicing.
• Educational guidelines for digitalization have to be developed and implemented. Therefore, knowledge about prospective job profiles is necessary.

The changes in knowledge and the recommendations in education build a framework for digitalization in education.
