Abstract:
Given the continuous growth of psychological problems in the populations of developped countries within the last decades, it is obvious: There will never be enough psychotherapists to face this challenge. Prevention by psycho-education becomes mandatory. Given the high rates of comorbidity and of life prevalence for different psychological problems, it is obvious: This psycho-education should be better transdiagnostic, and available not only in adult education, but already for youth.

Rational emotive sophistic will be presented as one approach for such a transdiagnostic psycho-education for adults and youth, which combines one of the most promising cognitive-behavioral, transdiagnostic prevention methods that was developed in the last decades - rational emotive psycho-education - with one of the oldest methods of psycho-education, already known in antiquity, whose value has become rediscovered more and more in the last years. My contribution will start with a sketch of rational emotive psycho-education and a sketch of the Protagorean brand of sophistic, the oldest occidental form of professional adult education. Then I will show how the combination of the two ingredients makes rational emotive sophistic more apt for an approach to transdiagnostic psycho education for adults. Finally, I will discuss the affordances to apply this approach to transdiagnostic psycho-education also with youth.
